Students With Permanent Disabilities:

Questions:

  1. I have a learning disability and I need more time to complete assignments. Can I take a reduced course load?

  2. Is there funding available for equipment, attendant care or other special access needs?

Answers:

  1. I have a learning disability and I need more time to complete assignments. Can I take a reduced course load?

Yes, students with permanent disabilities can take a minimum of 40% of a full course load and still be processed as a full-time student. If you wish to take less than 40% of a full course load part-time student loans are available.

  2. Is there funding available for equipment, attendant care or other special access needs?

Yes. The Student Assistance Program recognizes the additional costs facing students with permanent disabilities. Assistance may be provided for such things as adaptive equipment, attendant care, specialized tutors, specialized transportation to and from school, etc. You may be eligible for Canada Study Grant of up to $8,000. For more information please contact the disability coordinator at your school.
